KIein Lacrosse Club
Varsity Boys defeated Spain Park High from outside Birmingham,
Alabama, 11-4, to capture the sixth annual Allstate Sugar Bowl
Lacrosse Classic title on Sunday afternoon, January 29th,
in New Orleans, Louisiana. After winning the championship in the
first four years of the event, Klein was eliminated in the
quarterfinals last year, but came back strong in 2012 to retake
their crown.
In Sunday’s finale, the
two teams traded goals early and were deadlocked at three before
Klein closed the half with three unanswered scores. In the second
half, the teams again traded goals to make it 7-4, but Klein tallied
four straight goals to close the scoring. Tyler Reed and Bryce
Miller each scored three for Klein, while the tournament’s offensive
MVP, Dylan Reeves, added two. Kevin Estell from Klein was named the
defensive MVP. Coach Tim Glass and Coach Bruce Roloff |

The Varsity Boys were undefeated in
winning 1st place
in the UT Longhorn Shootout Tournament December 10th and
11th. They defeated opposing teams by large margins. Our
awesome offense played as a team and scored with seeming ease. Our
mighty defensive machine played spectacularly, holding the opposing
teams to less than 3 points average per game. Our boys played in
this tournament without their coaches, Tim Glass and Bruce Roloff,
and were also missing three starters. The senior boys ran the plays
and led by example. The team was well managed by our JV coach,
Waylon Heflin and our club president, Scott Marder. Playing the way
they have been practicing these past few months made Coach Tim and
Coach Bruce very proud. In Coach Tim’s words, “I am so proud of
them – awesome, awesome.” We should mention that Coach Bruce was
able to make the championship game - with no speeding tickets! We
were glad he was there to see the boys win over Lake Travis 9 to 2.
We are so proud of our boys for playing as a team.
Every team member made a contribution, including the JV players that
stayed and played the last two games. Varsity handled the pressure
and played with a great deal of sportsmanship. We couldn’t ask
anymore from them. Congratulations, Varsity Boys and Coaches! |
